There’s an opportunity to take part in a Lectio Divina Advent retreat workshop, ‘Weaving the Word,’ facilitated by Marie McStay, on Saturday 3 December, 10am-4.30pm, at Holy Cross Benedictine Monastery in Rostrevor. The fee is £40 and includes a light lunch. You can reserve your place by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or 07833393491.
McStay is an experienced facilitator of these workshops. I attended one several years ago and was enriched by the experience. This latest notification comes as a reminder that we can all benefit from slowing down and using this ancient technique of contemplating the scriptures, particularly if the spiritual aspects of Advent seem to get neglected in the holiday rush.
McStay is a professionally licensed personal development trainer and spiritual director who has designed and delivered workshops in Ireland, the UK and Europe. She is also a broadcaster and voice coach. She says:
The season of Advent presents us with the challenge to go into the desert. Our Spiritual exercises during these weeks leading to Christmas make us fully aware of our need for forgiveness. It is the time to look at ourselves with honesty and to convert to humility of heart — across all of our life. With Lectio Divina, we can grow in sensitivity to the nudges of the Holy Spirit and learn to pray, to communicate with God.
The day will include:
- Looking at the techniques which have been handed down through the ages;
- Learning the simple steps for distinguishing the Word spoken to you personallly;
- Developing mindfulness;
- Interpreting meaning for your personal circumstances;
- Being empowered to pray for the courage to answer the call of that Word.
